Aaaaand we’re back!

Posted by jonathan on Apr 20, 2012 in News | Comments Off

We’re back and better than ever! A lot has happened since version 2.04… we just submitted version 2.13 today and it’s currently Waiting For Review in Apple’s app review queue. Tackable’s mission statement is to connect people to places. We’re still doing that in a number of ways. We are expanding our library of products. Earlier this week on April 15th, we launched Events on a Map for the iPad. This app allows you to quickly and easily discover events near you and find events all over the world. You can...

What’s new in v2.04

Posted by luke.stangel on Oct 17, 2011 in News | Comments Off

I hope you’ve enjoyed Tackable for iPhone v2.03. On Tuesday, we’ll submit v2.04. Let me give you a quick preview of what to expect: 1. We’re entering public beta For the past three weeks, we’ve been in private beta. That meant people had to apply for an early invitation, or use a beta invite code from someone else to get in through the front door. That’s ending with v2.04. You’ll now be to able to sign up yourself (optionally, using your Facebook or Twitter account) and create your own password. Yay! 2....

Thoughts on our first week in private beta

Posted by luke.stangel on Oct 4, 2011 in News | Comments Off

Tackable for iPhone went into private beta exactly 7 days ago today. To everyone who downloaded the app so far: Thank you. It’s been an awesome week. I want to take a moment and talk about where we are right now, and what we’d like to accomplish in October. One of Tackable’s biggest strengths is our ability to work through technical problems and produce new features quickly. The team is currently in a one-week development cycle, which means we’ll be completing a significant new version of the software every Friday. I...

This will be our biggest stage yet, and we’ve prepared a killer presentation. Most exciting perhaps, is the announcement we’ll be making on-stage. Stay tuned. Our “Michael Collins” moment

Our “Michael Collins” moment

Continuing with our Moon landing metaphor, we experienced two significant milestones this week — our Michael Collins moment, if you will. Michael Collins was, of course, the third man on the Apollo 11 mission. He flew the rocket around the Moon as Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong walked on the surface. This week was significant for two reasons: We had our first celebrity sighting, and our first really big news story. First, the celebrity sighting. Last week Andrew Prell, the CEO of Agora Technologies (@agoratek), attended the Kentucky...

41 amazing Twitter photos from the White House, Ground Zero, and elsewhere

Like many of you, we watched last night’s live coverage of Osama bin Laden’s death from our living rooms, glued to CNN. On Twitter, the news was already the top trending topic, and eyewitnesses from around the country began posting live smartphone photos of boisterous crowds celebrating the moment. Many of these photos are dark and grainy, but all do a great job capturing the energy at the White House, Ground Zero, Times Square and elsewhere. We gathered together a small set of those photos and organized them in rough chronological...

Citizen journalism is dead, long live spontaneous journalism

Citizen journalism is dead, long live spontaneous journalism

If you’re following the evolving conversation over the future of the digital newsroom, you’ll inevitably catch the debate over citizen journalism vs. traditional journalism. Hyperlocal citizen journalism sites like Patch.com, MainStreetConnect and Examiner.com are classic examples of the concept: Employing writers from the community, who cover local news in direct competition with regional news organizations. Traditional journalists and citizen journalists essentially do the same work: Discovering news, researching relevant facts,...

We’re killing Prototype A, and here’s why

We’re killing Prototype A, and here’s why

Over the weekend, we made the difficult decision to pull the plug on Prototype A. Don’t worry, it’ll be back — after we supercharge it. In the meantime, let me tell you a little more about what we’re working on in the shop. First, a little background. Tackable’s Prototype A quietly hit the iPhone App Store on Aug. 28, 2010. We code-named it Tackable Prime, and introduced it to our friends. Tackable Prime was an elegant idea: A flat social network that allowed anyone to upload live photos, and create photo...

Why don’t we pay for news? (And other burning questions)

Why don’t we pay for news? (And other burning questions)

It’s been an eventful week here at Tackable, to say the least. Our 8-person team has spent the last 12 months working on Tackable in stealth mode, quietly tweaking features and building a new social network from the ground up. We didn’t put out a press release when we signed with MediaNews, and we’ve largely managed to keep our development progress a secret. That is, until last week. Damon Kiesow from Poynter and Martin Langeveld from Nieman Lab spontaneously discovered us on the same day, and both wrote articles about what...
